Job Description1. Role Purpose
VMware’s analyst relations team works to communicate clearly and consistently with technology industry analysts. As head of VMware’s APJ AR function, you will responsible for driving the development and execution of a multi-dimensional AR strategy that supports the company’s vision, desired long-term position and specific go-to-market themes. This will involve managing the operational aspects of analyst relations including budget and measurement, and liaising with global, regional and country communications teams.

This role will suit an experienced communications professional, a self-starter with excellent communication, analytical & relationship skills and who is capable of managing multiple projects in an organised and effective manner. The role requires attention to detail and plenty of initiative, and will work at both a tactical and strategic level to ensure internal and external AR goals are achieved.

2. Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

? Continue development and execution of VMware’s APJ AR strategy by building and fostering effective relationships with relevant analyst firms, and key analysts from those firms
? Design and execute outbound AR programs, including analyst briefing plans to support important marketing campaigns (eg significant product launches, corporate & partnership announcements etc)
? Develop and implement individual engagement plans for all Tier 1 analysts to ensure they are exposed to the appropriate mix of messages, technical detail and strategic insight to meet their information needs
? Proactively engage key analysts with company executives and subject matter experts via a mix of programs, including phone briefings, face-to-face interactions, and analyst enquiry
? Act as the primary point of contact for all analyst enquiries into VMware to ensure that information requests are assessed, then are either rejected or dealt with by the appropriate subject matter experts.
? Orchestrate analyst meetings with VMware staff, analyst events (such as vForum briefing days) and VMware involvement with analyst conferences such as Gartner Symposium
? Act as a centre of excellence for AR best practices and partner with key stakeholders (executives, marketing & product teams, sales, regional/country teams, external partners etc) to educate and ensure that AR practices are employed consistently across all analyst interactions
? Cultivate analysts who can serve as positive media, partner and customer references, as well as leverage analysts for pro-VMware communications through reprints, sponsored whitepapers or surveys, speaking engagements, and webcasts.
? Develop and implement appropriate measurement programs to ensure VMware’s AR goals are met, improvements are introduced, and results communicated to all stakeholders
? Manage relationships with external agencies & advisors to facilitate AR strategy development and program execution
? Manage the overall AR budget
? Assist with the management of analyst research contracts to ensure optimal ROI
? Monitor & record analyst information requests, analyst research that mentions VMware, and analyst commentary in the media that mentions VMware. Identify opportunities to influence commentary and correct inaccurate comments about VMware.
? Maintain an AR calendar of events identifying opportunities for analyst engagement.
? Maintain analyst database on an ongoing basis, ensuring analyst focus changes are updated.
? Develop briefing documents for analyst engagements, including analyst backgrounders, key issues etc.
? Organise logistics around analyst briefings & summits eg Gartner vendor briefing forms, conference call & meeting room bookings, invitation process, liaison with spokespeople & internal stakeholders etc.
? Draft internal communications about AR activities, achievements & requirements
? Provide key direction for programs such as annual analyst conference, buddy programs, strategic consulting sessions, monthly open calls, and leadership tours.
? Provide executive communications support including presentations, briefings, and talking points to assist with the development of communications. This includes extracting relevant information and data. from analyst reports and surveys.

3. Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills
? Well-developed research & analytical skills
? Independent thinking combined with a flexible, hands-on yet mentoring work style in a fast paced, rapidly changing, and relatively unstructured environment.
? A reputation as a self-starter. The right person will also be adept at working in a team environment to define new processes and policies to ensure a best-in-class AR program.
? Strong project management skills, including handling multiple assignments from conception to completion.
? The confidence, comfort and instinct required to interact with and drive consensus across multiple stakeholders, including executives.
? A strong technical mind with the ability to quickly extract, synthesize, and relay key information from multiple sources without becoming overwhelmed.
? Excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as interpersonal skills.
Strong knowledge of key business applications eg Word, Excel, PowerPoint

4. Previous Experience:

? Third-party AR certification (preferred)
? A minimum of 10 years communications experience in high-tech, with minimum of 5 years in analyst relations at $1B+ companies.
? A proven track record of successfully representing high technology companies in competitive environments to the analyst community.
